1. About My Voice
My Voice is an Android augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) app for children, configured and supervised by a parent, guardian or carer. Slick Applications is the developer. This policy describes My Voice, package com.myvoicefamily.aac, and its public privacy policy webpage.
No online account, child name, date of birth, home address, school, diagnosis or location is required to use the communication features. The Account screen manages a local device profile; parent access uses a local six-digit PIN. This policy takes effect on 30 October 2026.
2. Information the app handles
The app handles the vocabulary, item names, phrases, categories, availability and food storage labels a parent configures; selected photographs; familiar-voice recordings; voice and display settings; communication stage settings; saved phrases and the current sentence draft.
It also keeps food and drink usage events for local favourites and Usage Insights, and notification queue and history records. These can include choices, dates and times and can reveal private information about a child’s needs. Content entered by a family may contain personal or sensitive information even though the app does not require identifying details.
If a parent configures optional email notifications, the app handles recipient email addresses, an HTTPS service address, a device authentication token, the approved recipient list and the parent’s notification permission. Parent PIN and recovery-code verification records and lockout information are also stored locally.
3. Children and parental supervision
My Voice is designed for children with adult setup and supervision. PIN-protected parent controls manage content, camera and recording actions, exports, notification configuration and local deletion. The PIN is a local access control, not an identity or age verification service.
Parents should choose suitable content, protect the device and recovery code, and review every recipient and external service before enabling notifications or sharing a file. A child’s ordinary communication choices do not require an online registration or permission to send photographs or recordings to the developer.
4. Local storage and backups
Vocabulary, settings, sentence data, usage events and notification records are kept in the app’s local SQLite database. Button photographs and saved voice recordings are kept in its local application files. Parent security records, optional notification pairing details and recipient addresses use Android secure storage.
The SQLite database and exported files have no additional My Voice encryption layer. Android’s application sandbox and device protections apply. Android app backup is disabled in the app configuration. My Voice does not provide automatic cloud synchronisation or an online account backup.
Parents can export catalogue metadata and voice-recording backups through Android sharing. Catalogue metadata export is not a complete photograph backup. Recording backups contain audio and phrase information. The selected destination receives that information under its own practices. Protect those copies and delete them at the destination when no longer needed. Recording import uses the Android document picker.
5. How information is used
Information is used to display and speak communication choices and sentences, play saved familiar-voice recordings, remember a family’s settings, control availability, show local favourites and usage trends, protect parent controls and carry out actions requested by a parent.
When configured and permitted by a parent, selected communication requests are queued and transmitted for email delivery. Usage Insights is calculated locally; it is not a third-party analytics service. The app does not sell personal information or use it for advertising or marketing profiles.
6. Permissions and device speech
Camera permission is requested when a parent takes a photograph for a communication button. Microphone permission is requested when a parent starts a familiar-voice recording. Recording is foreground-only; My Voice does not record the microphone in the background. The image and document pickers provide access to files selected by the parent.
Declining camera or microphone permission leaves other communication choices available. Parents can revoke these permissions in Android settings. Internet and network-state access support optional notification pairing and delivery and checking connectivity. The app does not request access to contacts or precise location.
Device speech uses installed Android text-to-speech voices checked for offline availability. My Voice has no cloud speech service. Android and the chosen speech provider control installation of voice data and their own settings. Communication works offline when the required device voice data or saved recordings are available.
7. Optional email notifications
This release has no preconfigured notification service, device token or recipient addresses. A parent may independently configure an HTTPS family notification service and select up to three service-approved email recipients. Communication does not require pairing.
Before pairing, the app explains the transmission and asks the parent whether to proceed. Pairing sends the authentication token to the HTTPS service entered by the parent to obtain its approved recipient list. After pairing and permission, notifications can send a selected category and selection or phrase, event date and time, timezone, recipient email addresses and a random request ID to that service for email delivery. The authentication token accompanies requests. The service and network providers also receive connection information such as the device’s IP address.
Photographs and voice recordings are not included in notification requests. Notification content may nevertheless reveal sensitive information, including toileting or other needs. Review the service operator’s privacy information, suitability for children’s data, providers, consent requirements, retention and deletion arrangements before connecting it.
The repository includes a Cloudflare and Resend notification backend template. It does not automatically activate email delivery for app users. If a parent configures a service using that template, Cloudflare processes notification requests and operational records, Resend processes email content and recipient addresses for delivery, and recipient email providers and recipients receive the messages. Other configured services may use other providers.
The app checks recorded permission for the paired service before sending queued requests. Stop email notifications in the parent Notifications screen stops new submissions while preserving local history and pending requests. Discard pending requests prevents their later submission. Previously queued requests retain their original recipients. Already submitted emails cannot be recalled. Email notifications are not emergency alerts.
8. Sharing and third-party services
The app has no integrated advertising, in-app purchases or third-party advertising or analytics service in the reviewed release. Automatic Expo over-the-air updates are disabled. Expo, React Native and GitHub are used for app development and builds; the app does not send family communication history, photographs or recordings to their build services.
Information leaves the device through optional notifications, a parent-directed file export, opening an external link or information a person chooses to send to support. Android, Google Play, installed speech providers, selected sharing destinations and notification services process information under their own policies. My Voice does not control those independent practices.
Visiting the public policy webpage sends a normal HTTPS request to Cloudflare, its host, which processes connection information to deliver and protect the page. The page contains no advertising, analytics scripts, forms or app-data uploads. Reading the bundled policy inside My Voice requires no internet request.
If you contact support, your email address, message and any attachments are handled by your email provider and our mailbox provider. Support correspondence may be used to respond, investigate a reported problem or meet an applicable legal obligation. Avoid sending a child’s diagnosis, photographs or recordings unless necessary. The app does not send support messages automatically.
9. Retention and deletion
Local data remains until a parent changes or deletes it or the app’s local storage is removed. Parent controls allow deletion of custom items and their unused photographs, and saved recordings. Usage Insights can clear usage history. Notifications can clear completed history or discard pending requests.
Account includes a current-PIN-confirmed Delete local profile and all app data action. It removes local items, photographs, recordings, settings, parent security and pairing details, and history. Android’s clear-app-storage or uninstall actions also remove local app data. To retain information during an update, keep the existing app installed and do not clear its storage.
Reset Parent Setup is different: it removes the parent PIN, recovery information, email pairing, recipients and notification history while preserving family items, photographs, recordings and voice settings.
Local deletion cannot remove exported files, sent emails, recipient copies or external service records. Their retention is controlled by the chosen destination or service operator. Ask those operators and recipients to delete their copies. The developer cannot remotely access or erase the app’s local device data.
Support correspondence remains in the support mailbox unless deleted. No fixed retention period is promised for independent services, recipients or support messages. Contact the relevant operator or support to request deletion; applicable legal obligations may affect what can be removed.
10. Security and limitations
My Voice uses Android application storage, secure storage for parent security and pairing records, PIN protection and HTTPS for notification endpoints. These measures do not guarantee that information cannot be lost, accessed or disclosed. An unlocked, shared or compromised device, a disclosed PIN or recovery code, exported files and email recipients create additional risks.
Use a device screen lock, install trusted updates, safeguard exported backups and configure only trusted services. Email may be forwarded or retained by others. A PIN and local deletion are not guarantees of forensic erasure or security for data held by external providers.
11. Parent and guardian choices and rights
Parents and guardians can review and correct vocabulary and settings, remove local content, clear history, withdraw optional notification permission, revoke camera or microphone permissions in Android settings, and delete the local profile using the controls described above. Core communication does not require enabling email notifications.
For privacy questions, requests about support correspondence, or concerns about handling by the developer, contact slick.websites.studio@gmail.com. Explain the request without including unnecessary child information. We may need enough information to locate the correspondence and verify that a request is authorised. Rights and any exceptions depend on the laws that apply; this policy does not limit rights provided by those laws.
For information held by a separately configured notification service, export destination, email provider or recipient, contact that operator or recipient directly. If a concern is unresolved, you may seek advice from the privacy regulator applicable to your circumstances, including the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner in Australia.
12. International processing
The app’s local data is stored on the device. Optional notification services, email delivery and mailbox providers, sharing destinations and Cloudflare webpage hosting may process information outside Australia. Processing locations and safeguards depend on the service selected and its current arrangements; My Voice does not promise Australian-only processing.
Before enabling an external service or sharing a backup, parents should review its privacy information, international processing arrangements and suitability for children’s data. The app does not automatically send photographs or recordings to an overseas server.
13. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when the app’s information handling changes. The effective date and policy version identify the wording. Each app release bundles an offline copy, and the matching public version is generated from the same source. Future releases may update the public page; check the version when comparing an older installed app.
A future policy change alone does not enable notifications or replace any permission the app requires before sending data.
